Hello! I'm Stacy Brewer, city-dwelling teacher by day, gardener by night/any spare minute!
In December 2008, after reading Barbara Kingsolver's book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, I decided to start eating as locally and seasonally as possible and it changed my life! My seaonaltarian resolution inspired me to take my gardening to a whole new level – to try and grow as much of my food, organically, as I can in the yard of my modest Seattle lot. I started square-foot gardening to maximize the space I have. I started going to the farmers' market every weekend to supplement my bounty and stopped buying processed food. If I can make it from scratch, I don't buy it. I've been baking a loaf of bread just about every weekend since this crazy experiment began. This year, I started raising chickens for eggs. I recently graduated from the Master Gardener program and am currently a first-year intern.
I started this blog to keep track of my progress (challenges and successes) and transformation into an enthusiastic foodie, a more experienced and confident cook, and urban "farmer."
I have to give a big shout out to my amazing boyfriend, Jake, for going to great lengths to take the beautiful photos I post, for the sweat and labor he's put into making my garden and chicken coop a reality, and for always being so supportive and positive about this somewhat extreme culinary adventure.
